The Volendammer Kwak is known for its robust yet flowing lines, giving the ship excellent seaworthiness and outstanding sailing characteristics.

The Swarte Haen was built around 1907 at Hakvoort Monnickendam on behalf of the first owner, who was known in Volendam as "Keesje van kleine Evert".

One of the most famous ships of the Zuiderzee fishery that was suitable for the North Sea.

The sail wardrobe of the ship consists of mainsail, jib, and genoa, together providing a sail area of no less than 230 m2. The ship is equipped with 2 engines of 100 hp each.
